New Orleans 4/14 - Intersecting Discourses on Environmental Action (IDEA) and Dane Rossman Benefit Movie Screening

The Intersecting Discourses on Environmental Actions (IDEA) conference seeks to unite community members, students, and organizers. We will discuss options to end the environmental ruptures that have threatened the bio-cultural region of the U.S. South and the world.

The goal of this convergence is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas between participants working on environmental issues from a variety of perspectives and experiences.

These issues include but are not limited to: the impacts of tar sands, hydraulic shale fracturing, Louisiana coal refineries, the BP oil spill and oil dispersants. This meeting of minds will facilitate networking and brainstorming for collective action and awareness from the region.

Who: Members of Sierra Club, Idle No More, Tar Sands Blockade, River Delta Resist and YOU

Following the forum, there will be a series of trainings in the park on ways you can organize actions against the destruction of the environment. More info to come!

Tacos and bar at event

Two hour long films will be shown at this event, tacos will be for sale as a fundraiser, and the Mudlarks bar will be open. PLEASE DO NOT BYOB. The Mudlark is being super awesome and letting us use the space for free since its a benefit, and you could support them instead of Hanks Supermarket!

Blockadia Rising; This film documents the grassroots direct action campaign waged by Texas landowners and environmentalists against construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Blockadia Rising is packed full of amazing action footage and inspiring interviews. You don't want to miss it!

End Civ: End Civ examines our cultures addiction to systematic violence and environmental exploitation, and probes the resulting epidemic of poisoned landscapes and shell shocked nations. Based in part of "Endgame" by.Derrick Jensen, and done by Frank Lopez of submedia.tv, and delivered in his typical, snarky, punchy, engaging style, End Civ urges viewers to ask themselves the question "If your homeland was invaded by aliens who cuts down the forests, poisoned the water and air, and contaminated the food supply, would you resist?"

This event is a benefit for Dane Rossman.

On 2/21, US marshals arrested Dane at his home in Tucson, AZ, acting on a provisional arrest warrant acting on a Canadian extradition request. Dane is one of five Americans sought in Canada for alleged property damage offenses related to the G20 summit in 2010. The G20 is a group of finance ministers and international bank officers from 19 powerful countries and the European Union. Canadian authorities specifically targeted people involved in migrant worker solidarity, indigenous solidarity, and anarchist organizing for prosecutions. Dane was arrested along with 1100 other protestors. He was processed and released without charges. 3 years later he is facing extradition charges for alleged property damage. The extradition of an individual from the US to Canada for property damage is almost totally unheard of. Dane's extradition is political is nature because it is meant to create fear and criminalize dissent.
