Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Long Island City, NY (March 05, 2013) -
The District Council 16 Cement and Concrete Workers Training and Education Fund will conduct a recruitment from March 5, 2013 through March 18, 2013 for 15 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today

Applications can be obtained at District Council 16 Training Center, 29-18 35th Avenue, Long Island City, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday during the recruitment period. This is limited application recruitment. Applications will be accepted during the recruitment period or until 300 applications have been issued, whichever comes first.

The Committee requires that applicants:

    Must be at least 18 years old - proof required at time of indenture.
    Must have a 10th grade education - proof required at time of indenture.
    Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a physical agility test.
        Must pass physical agility test.
        Minimum required score on physical task test is 28 of possible 35 points.
    Must complete a registration card.
    Must submit to and pass a drug test to be paid for by the sponsor, after selection and prior to starting employment.
    Must submit a copy of their DD-214 at the time of selection, if claiming veteran status.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
